JOB TITLE: Support Staff Teacher (Floater)EMPLOYMENT (PT/FT) : Full-Time (40 hours per week)EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Hourly (non-exempt)REPORTS TO: Head Teachers, Education Director
Must be at least eighteen (18) years old
Must have a minimum of one (1) year of work experience related to the care and development of children
Must hold a BA, AA or equivalent degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special
Education, Elementary Education, or Human ServicesOR
Must hold a current Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate, along with a minimum of 3 years’ prior work experience in early childhood education
Must clear a full background check and present all required clearances, and must pass a health screening
Required to maintain current Fire Safety and Infant/child CPR and First Aid certifications
Must have the ability to consistently lift 35 pounds
OTHER IMPORTANT QUALIFICATIONS: * A warm and friendly personality; must be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others; must have the ability to work well with staff, children, and parents, and to foster a team environment; must be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the Center’s educational philosophy and the direction of the Head Teacher and/or administrative staff; must possess strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skillsCOMPENSATION
Compensation is commensurate with experience: $15.00 to $17.00 per hour and eligibility for healthcare benefits after 60-day probationary period. JOB DUTIES Responsible for assisting the Head Teacher(s) and/or Assistant Teacher(s) in various classes with maintaining the health and safety of the children, providing appropriate supervision, classroom management, educational programming, planning and assessment.
1. Support the Head Teacher (s) and/or Assistant Teacher(s) in ensuring the health and safety of all children- Ensure all center policies and procedures and state regulations are followed/met.- Ensure a healthy classroom environment — including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children- Maintain accurate records, forms and files
2. Support the Head Teacher (s) and/or Assistant Teacher(s) in ensuring the effective functioning of the classroom and the successful implementation of daily lesson plans- Help to coordinate and implement educational curriculum and classroom activities based on developmentally-appropriate practices and early learning standards.- Help to plan individual and group age-appropriate activities that actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.
3. Assume the duties of the Head Teacher or Assistant Teacher when he/she is absent from classroom – Includes performing duties listed in the Head Teacher or Assistant Teacher’s job descriptions (see separately) in the absence of one of the regular classroom teachers and/or as instructed by HeadTeacher, Assistant Teacher or Administrative Staff
4. Remain flexible, as classroom assignments may change based on the needs of the center
NOTE: Head Teachers have overall responsibility for classroom management, functioning, planning, assessment and reporting. However, a Support Staff Teacher may be called upon to assume the duties of the regular classroom teacher(s) in support of and/or in the absence of the regular classroom teacher(s).
